In honor of my two-year anniversary of earning my pilot’s license (full story here), I thought I’d dedicate a post to aviation themed rooms.
Flying has a magic about it that is all its own. Airplanes have the specialist place in my heart. I always stop to look at them in the sky. (It makes driving an interesting experience.) I worked at the private side of the airport, in general aviation, for three years. Honestly, those were the best three years of my life. The airport and airplanes became such a significant part of my life and who I am. I think about the Jet Center every day. I miss being at the airport every day. I miss the smell of jet fuel. I miss the sounds of take off. I miss radio calls. I miss smug captains. I miss snooty passengers. I miss eating salt water taffy til my teeth hurt. I miss all the other ‘airport creatures’ that made up part of the dynamic. I miss eating left over catering. I miss talking in the phonetic alphabet. I am grateful I worked hard to make my dream of becoming a pilot come true. Flying will always be my number one. It will always be my favorite hobby. And I will fly until the day the FAA won’t let me!
This was the view from my desk at the airport. I miss it. This is, by definition, true beauty.
I love aviation in design. It has been a dream of mine to have an aviation themed nursery and/or office. I have compiled some of my favorite rooms that include aviation in their design.
No one does vintage aviation better than Restoration Hardware. That wing-desk is so neato.
Those chairs are rad too. Me and Aaron test drove them in the RH store. They are actually comfortable. And- they SWIVEL.
I love that prop, there in the corner. And the vintage airplane gallery.
I loved this nursery. It has the perfect aviation flare without being too “themey” and too “kiddish.”
How about this room? I really like the map wreath. I have so many old sectionals I could do this with.
As my mum always told me, “Up in the air Jr Birdsman!”
