DIY Spa Bath Tub Caddy

Luxury For Pennies

Did you guys see that Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw yesterday?  Gnarly.

Valentine’s day is coming up.  And maybe you want to make yourself a gift, for a romantic night to yourself 😉  If that’s what you’re into. It’s way better than sending yourself a dozen roses from a “secret admirer.”

I saw this post by Everyday Simple (look at item #2) featuring different Valentine’s gifts.  The spa-like bath tub caddy stuck out to me, and I thought “Hey!  I am 100% capable of making this for myself.  Do it to it Lars.”

I had a shload of left over wood from framing out the pillars in the basement.

I measured the width of the bath tub and cut the boards to length.  Me and my miter saw.  My true tool-love.

I laid it out to make sure it all fit together.

I measured the inside width of the bath tub, and put the cross pieces slightly less than that.  So the caddy wouldn’t wiggle around.  Nobody likes a wiggly caddy.

I ended up adding a third piece in the middle for support.

Of course I finish nailed it in the basement.  That’s where you keep your compressor and nail gun too, right?

And seal it up good with some polyurethane.

My bathroom is nothing fancy.  In fact, we haven’t done one bit of work to it.  Haven’t even painted it.  This caddy transforms an ordinary space into a little splash of luxury.

It’s for my personal “spa” days.

Water + orange slices, sugar free white chocolate pudding + raspberries, good book, and a bubble bath.  It is good.  And it is a proven recipe to turn people into prunes.

Let’s be real, the magic doesn’t really happen until you turn the lights off.

It is also strong enough to be a bench.  Which is perfect for leg-shaving.

As Aaron will demonstrate:

Obviously he has never shaved his legs before.  Not sure how much success one can have in this position.

There you have it.  This was SO easy.  I made a total of 5 straight cuts, and a few nails with a nail gun.  The longest part was waiting for the stain and poly to dry.

Now go enjoy yourself some dang bubbles!

What things do YOU do to add luxury to your ordinary life?

I like it too. It makes my life feel a little better.

  • my bathtub is far too disgusting for me to take a bath in it…. but a leg shaving step would be glorious! this may be a job for me and my new jigsaw!

    • Kenz

Whaaa? Why is your bath tub so gross?? You should definitely build one with your new bff jigsaw 🙂

  • Gretchen

ooh, pretty! And I love how practical it you can jump right up there and shave your legs after you finish reading your book by candlelight 🙂

    • Kenz

Oh yeah! I’m down for a couple hours of alone time/pampering 🙂

  • Tricia SimplicityInTheSouth

It’s pretty and practical! I almost bought a chrome bath caddy, but this is 10x better because you can use this to shave your legs. Love this!

    • Kenz

Thanks Tricia! I love the function too. I definitely need this for shaving help. 🙂 And it stores very nicely under the sink.

  • Anat

    Hi, Kenz

I love this idea, nice and your hubby is funny. Did he shave his legs? : )

    • Kenz

Hey Vanessa! Aaron is pretty funny. He makes me laugh all the time. There’s no way he would ever shave his legs. His leg hair protects his manhood 🙂 haha, but he has no problem pretending 😉

  • Jen @ The Yellow Brick Cottage

Umm…Yeah, Totally Awesome! Maybe if I had that my books wouldn’t fall into the tub all the time!!

    • Kenz

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped books in the tub… knocked candles over the edge, spilled wax everywhere… oh yes.

  • michelle

I’m laughing(to myself as it’s 3:30 in the morning- sometimes you just have to pull an almost all-nighter to get some cleaning done and a peaceful bath, lol). I was literally just thinking that I have GOT to figure out an easy, solid tray for the tub. Got out of bath, turned on tablet, went to thrifty decor chick over to get your craft on and saw your awesome tray!! So simple, absolutely have the materials out in the garage!! Thank you for posting this!

    • Kenz

It’s perfect! You’ll love it 🙂 I’m glad I’m not the only one who stays up late to clean and bath! Send me pics when you’re done!

  • Great project! Your last pics are so funny!! Pinning now!

    • Kenz

Thanks so much Kristin! Aaron is a good sport 🙂

  • I am SO jealous that you made one!! Seriously, I’ve been dying to make one for forever now, ever since I first saw that photo. I may have to get on this asap. I’ll just have to get everything cut at the store – the woes of not having the right tools when you need them, sigh.

    • Kenz

BUT the easy part of that is, someone cuts it for you, and you can take your time wandering around the lighting section 🙂 I hope you make one! I’d love to feature it if you did 🙂

  • Brandy @ Home Sweet Here

I one of the in my life in a bad way!
