Drywall Halfwall Happy

If you don’t know what we’re doing, the answer is this: (kinda.  the 3D rendering wasn’t able to incorporate a few of our details)

Ikea Kitchen

Let’s revisit what obstacle, eye sore, organization-dysfunction, impracticality, was once was the pantry and closet.

Good thing I had the ambition to rip it down with my bare hands when Aaron was at work.  And we lived with this for awhile.

But of course, this wouldn’t do.  How could it?!  Jagged half wall, hanging wires, studs and nails…

So Aaron and my super Dad got to it to make it ready for cabinets, counters, and backsplash.

Of course, the back-breaking chore of moving the stack of flooring had to happen first.

The wall had to be opened up to route the hanging electrical.  #KarlCameo

The dynamic duo!  They let me sit and watch with my feet propped up.  It’s real life 3D HGTV.  And I get kisses from the good looking workers.  So, win win.

These are the new outlets.  Perfect for plugging in hand mixers and lamps.

That important moment in a girl’s life when her trash-bag ceiling is replaced with drywall…  Oh you don’t know that feeling because you’ve never had garbage bags as a roof?  Oh… aren’t you boojie as all get out!

Mmm yeah!  Ceiling!

Annnnnnnd, the drywall puzzle is put together!  Now to frost it with mud and tape.

On a personal note, thanks for all your well wishes!  I love my internet friends so hard 🙂  I’m so excited/nervous for Haven.  500 business cards showed up on my porch like they owned the place.  Let me know if YOU are going to be at Haven this weekend!

Oh I like this look so much better without the trash bags. 🙂 That is going to be such a great foundation for the rest of the kitchen. I just love the 3d rendering!

    • Kenz

Thanks Katja! Did you ever do a 3d rendering with your IKEA kitchen? I don’t remember seeing one.

  • Alix

I love your blog! you’ve given me so much inspiration for the house me and my boyfriend just bought! (well a year ago, but seriously time flies) I was wondering where you got the 3D blueprint for the kitchen? I want to see my kitchen in a different way, but my kitchen is shaped really weird so it’s hard to imagine it differently.

    • Kenz

Time definitely flies! We are coming up on 2 years in our house, and it seriously feels like we just closed on it.

The 3D rendering was on IKEA’s site. You go to “design a kitchen” and you input your measurements. It’s free to use their software. It really does help you visualize what a new kitchen could look like in your space. Good luck! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  • Tara @ Surburble

Love it! (especially the awesome mugs from the “labour force”!). It’s really coming along, lady. I can hardly wait to see it when it’s close to done!

Enjoy Haven. Soak it up. Be your awesome self. Make friends with bloggers who craft up baby gifts and schmooze them. Baby Evelyn needs a fancy wardrobe with crocheted owl hats and personalized barette organizers!

    • Kenz

That is a brilliant plan. I’m going to need to do some research the next couple of days. SO MANY OWL HATS!
