Interiors OF Kenz FAQ: Baby Crowder Edition

Interiors By Kenz Baby

A big squishy HELLO to all the new eyes reading my blog.  Welcome to what is my life.  It’s a pretty unconventional life.

TLDR About Me: Me and Aaron got married.  We bought a dated 6 bedroom house.  We rent out the basement to 2 of our best friends: Matt & Karl.  Matt & Karl are more than tenants, they are family.  We have two dogs, Indy & Buster.  (After Indiana Jones and Buster Bluth of course.) We also have 3 chickens.  Aaron’s a computer programmer.  I am a compliance manager of a real estate brokerage by day and real estate agent by night, blogger on the side.  Like normal people with jobs, we DIY when we can to make our house a beautiful home.  And we just found out that we are welcoming our newest tenant into our home: BABY CROWDER.

After we made our announcement to you, the response was so overwhelming.  I can’t thank you enough for your excitement, congratulations, and well wishes.  You are the kindest people I know.  I am lucky to call you friends.  I love you all.  But you are some pretty curious people 🙂  I got several email questions and comment questions.  Hopefully I can clear up what’s been on your mind!

Now that you’re going to have a baby, are you going to kick out Matt & Karl from the basement?

Absolutely not!  If Matt and Karl felt uncomfortable living with a new baby, they would be more than welcome to leave.  But we all think the basement-dwellers will survive just fine.

How did Matt & Karl take the news/ When did you tell them?

The day we found out, Aaron ran to Barnes & Noble to pick up “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”  He left it on his night stand.  The next day, Matt and Karl found it, and demanded answers.  They were thrilled.  There was a lot of group hugging.  Matt is the oldest of 6, Karl has over 20 nieces and nephews.  They both worked with foster kids for years.  They are no stranger to kiddos.  Excitement runs pretty high.

Have Indy and Buster been acting like they “know”?

Kinda.  I mean, do dogs have a 6th sense?  They like to cuddle my tummy.  I don’t know if they know there’s a baby in there.  But they can tell something is up.  They probably think it’s an alien.

Do you have a room picked out for the nursery?

Yerp.  The bay window room (originally Aaron’s office).  It’s right across from the master.  It’s so bright and perfect.

Do you have any names picked out?

Well, yes.  BUT I’m not ready to spill that yet 😉

This comment brought to you by Karl:
1. If its a boy… can I take him hunting? 2. If its a girl… can I take her to the mall and make women love me..?

Yes & yes.

Are you keeping the dogs and the chickens?

Indy & Buster are my children.  They are part of the family.  They stay.  The chickens… well, the rooster is gone.  But we plan on keeping the 3 ladies.  They are my egg-makers.

There were more questions I wasn’t able to get to, but I got the most asked ones.

Thanks for tuning into this edition of Interiors OF Kenz!

Mine was the name question! Curse you gorgeous woman! Haha ok but you will share the gender when you know right?? We have shopping to do!

    • Kenz

Sorry for not divulging our names! I think once we have decided on THE name, and we know if it is a sir or a miss, we will share. I’m horrible at keeping secrets. SO MUCH SHOPPING TO DO!

  • Amber @ Wills Casa

Yea can’t wait to see what you’re doing in the nursery! So are you finding out the gender? But you are keeping the name secret until birth or just for now? Sorry more questions. I’m just curious! I’m still jumping around with excitement which is totally exhausting!

    • Kenz

There’s no way I could be disciplined enough to not find out! I am having a hard time working on a nursery without knowing. Even though I want it “gender neutral” I obviously DON”T because… what’s stopping me? haha. I’m crazy. Haha! Jumping for excitement is pretty exhausting. Why don’t we just take a celebratory nap instead 🙂

I found out the gender with my son. But knowing I wouldn’t have another after the second I decided not to find out. From one of the ultrasounds we were pretty sure but not positive. It was one of the best surprises I have ever gotten. 🙂

        • Kenz

That is so cute! I hear about a lot of people who want to be surprised with their 2nd. I think I could handle that!

      • Amber @ Wills Casa

You are a genius. I shall pause my jumping to take a celebratory nap! I think it’s easy to be surprised with the 2nd. You have too much unknown with the 1st you really don’t need any additional surprises!

        • Katja @ Shift Ctrl ART

I am all for celebratory naps. Even when not pregnant. Naps rock!! Fact!

  • SImply Sarah

Yay, for Indy and Buster gaining a sibling. DH and I have Bichon Frise and I know she would love a sibling too…so I know those pup babies are gonna love baby crowder.
Again girly I am just so happy for you and your little happily expanding family! Have a good one!

    • Kenz

furry babies need siblings too 🙂 I’m glad you understand! Thanks for being so excited with us!

  • Stephanie, Sandpaper and Glue

    • Kenz

  • Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos

    It’s all sooooo EXCITING!

    • Kenz

I’m so happy you’re excited with me! Everyday I’m seconds away from peeing my pants with excitement 🙂

      • Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos

Speaking of peeing pants, soon that will be a part of your everyday life when your +1 starts doing an Irish jig on your pelvic floor. 🙂

        • Kenz

BAHAHAHAHAHA! I can’t wait til the irish jigging happens inside my belly!

  • Amy

What are you planning on getting done before baby makes their appearance? I’m due in September, and my plan is to put my other two kids in a room together (2 new beds, new closet doors), set up the new room for baby and a bed for me, decorate the play-den area, reorganize the basement with shelving for all the craft crap that is in the closet of the bedroom that my other kids will be sharing, and continue gardening.

    • Kenz

Your list is pretty huge! You’ve got a lot on your hands. I’m sure I’ll write some kind of checklist post. But housewise- have the kitchen finished up. Nurserywise- everything! haha. This is our first, so we have a lot to get. We also want to replace the windows and the carpet in addition to normal nursery items. I’m sure we will come up with a timeline for those things. Thanks for stopping by Amy! Congrats on the baby! September birthdays are the best 😉

  • Michelle

You’re smart not sharing the name. I’m always afraid of stealing my name ideas. And it’s harder to make fun of a name after it’s already attached to a sweet baby face.

    • Kenz

SO TRUE. So so so true. Never been truer. Thank you for being on the same page!

  • Tara @ Surburble

That room looks so bright and open! It’s going to be a fantastic nursery! I cannot wait to see all of the projects you come up with!

I love that your tenant/friend-people are going to stay! It’s so nice to have a “village” when you’ve got a baby. And that village doesn’t necessarily have to be a giant group of vaginas. Men can be nurturers too! 🙂

    • Kenz

Tara. You are amazing. hahahaha, I laughed SO HARD at the “group of vaginas.” How do you come up with that stuff? Keep it coming. Please 🙂

  • Sarah {Life in Ryans}

So excited for you! Can’t wait to see what you do with the nursery 🙂

    • Kenz

Thanks Sarah! I’m pretty much getting pumped about the nursery and the little person who will live there!

  • anne @ wit wisdom and food

I had computer problems and didn’t get my congrats in on the announcement post. So a belated congrats and I love the room you picked for the nursery. Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

    • Kenz

Thanks so much Anne! That meas a lot 🙂 We are SO excited!

  • Katja @ Shift Ctrl ART

It’s so exciting. Can’t wait to see your nursery. B never had a nursery because we did the whole attachment parenting thing with co-sleeping etc, but I love to see a good nursery come together! So many possibilities. It’s gonna be great!!!

    • Kenz

Thanks Katja! I’m really excited to start working on it. We have a couple small things in the works, but we will really be diving in when we know if baby C is a boy or girl 🙂
