The Perfect Orb Chandelier

We were able to save some extra money on our kitchen reno budget, so we were able to splurge a little with our light fixtures.

I knew I wanted a nice orb chandelier.  I felt like I had seen them all over the place, but when it came to actually looking for one to buy, they all went into hiding.  Just like Amanda Bynes.

I found several styles, in different variations.  But none of them were quite right.

This one from Restoration Hardware was obviously too expensive, $1195.  But what I did like was how many lights it had.  Our previous chandelier was a 12 arm, and we knew we needed something that would really light up the whole area.

Shades of Light had a few different options, but this one was too jewel-y.

Shades of Light ORB chandelier

This one was too twiggy and not enough arms.

Shades of light Orb

This one comes from the Young House Love line of lights, and I really like the price, but it only had one bulb.  That wouldn’t do much for our big area.

And of course, there are DIY versions of this style of light out there.  This fantastic tutorial comes from Tatertots and Jello.  But, we all know my recent failure at DIY light fixtures.

I found the perfect balance of price and style for an orb chandelier on Amazon.  I actually needed two chandeliers, one for the table, and one for the stairs.

It’s the perfect scale for our dining table.

I’m going to come right out and say it, I’m a light fixture harlot.  I love them so much.  I feel like light fixtures are jewelry for a room.

Orb Chandelier

I’m kind of obsessed with the way the lights look.  It’s joyous.

And from one orb to another… This picture was at 35 weeks.  Now we’re at 37 🙂

And there was light!

I’m so glad you found the light fixtures your dreams are made of! Without a doubt, you are the most adorable “orb” in the room! I am so excited for baby Crowder’s arrival! Also, your kitchen transformation blows me away!

    • Kenz

Thanks Erin! I am feeling so huge these days. I am waddling all over the place. I’m pretty excited for her arrival too. Nervous. But definitely excited. The kitchen is almost unrecognizable. I’m loving it so much!

  • Cassie Bustamante

oh i love it! they are so perfect! and you are adorable. and about to bring a baby into the world, so don’t for the love of all that is good and right go all amanda bynes! 😉

    • Kenz

hahaha! I definitely won’t go all amanda bynes! But did you hear, that she got out of rehab today, and that means she will be returning to twitter… haha, I’m pathetic. It’s just been so quiet there for a few months! But I promise I’m behaving and resting up well 🙂

  • Love your choice of orbs but especially love the orb that you are carrying, What a delightful season for you and your family!

    • Kenz

Thanks Vickie! It has been so much fun getting ready for little baby orb Crowder. It’s almost hard to believe we’re so close to the end. It seemed so far away back in April when we found out!

  • Stephanie, Sandpaper and Glue

those lights are freaking gorgeous- I like the rope-y one too!

    • Kenz

So many cool options, right? It was just a matter of finding the right one for the area. Oh yeah, I”ve totally seen some ropey ones that are super rad.

  • Looks so great Kenz! You are almost there 37 weeks!! xo Krisitn

    • Kenz

Thanks Kristin! I’m so excited at how close we are!!! It’s so real now!

  • TracieMcOB

You look great! and so does your home. All of your hard work is really paying off. The only thing I don’t understand is what happened to those beautiful chairs you had in your living room before you started all this remodeling? (LOOOOVE the new couch – so jelly) The ones you have in there now fit perfectly in your downstairs room but they look so casual in the living room. Just saying!

    • Kenz

Thanks Tracie! It feels pretty good to be having my vision come to life, and pretty much be done. We actually sold the old living room furniture to a guy who flips houses. He wanted them for staging furniture, which I thought was a perfect idea. He paid us exactly what we paid for them, so we were able to put that money into some new things. The chairs were really perfect in the basement! We haven’t decided if they are staying upstairs. They have been a place holder until we find just the right thing for the spot. I’m definitely open to suggestions if you have any links you want to send me!! 🙂

  • Amber @ Wills Casa

You already know I love that bump pictures. I’ve yelled at you about it’s adorableness loud enough already! I do like how you tied in the round belly with the round chandelier. Pretty genius! Love both of the lights! They look great especially in front of all those gorgeous cabinets!

    • Kenz

I don’t know why I’ve been so shy of posting bump pictures. It’s not because we haven’t taken any. I’ll post more before she gets here, I suppose 🙂 And thanks about the lights. I’m pretty much loving them to death!

  • You are truly gorgeous. The orbs have nothing on that belly. If I were near you, I would totally rub it. Because I’m truly that person.

Oh, yeah. I like the lights too. 😉

    • Kenz

Oh thank you Friend! I would definitely let you rub my belly! I have no boundaries these days 😉

  • ooohhh…so pretty!!! Love both those lights. And hurray for bump pics 🙂

    • Kenz

Thanks Kelly! It’s amazing the different a light can make… and how much of a different 35 weeks can make too haha!

Love your new lights. I am a big fan of that shape for a light fixture. You will see what I mean when you see the dining room lamp I am getting in a couple of months when I get around to it. Did I mention I am behind? oh wall. You look gorgeous. Can’t wait to see little Evelyn. Won’t be long now…

    • Kenz

I am really behind on blog posts too! I have several that I just haven’t written. I decided to give myself a break during Thanksgiving week 🙂 I’m excited to see your new lamp when you get it! I LOVE lighting! SO SO MUCH! I can’t wait to see her too. I am soo excited.

  • Ashley

Looks great! The place is looking SMOKIn’. Haha. No idea why I said that, just felt right.

    • Kenz

haha, anything that looks smokin’ is always right. I hope you’re enjoying that snow in NM!

  • Henriette

Oh, 37 weeks! She could be born any day now! 😀 I am almost 33 weeks now, and I think the little man is trying to dig his way out sometimes. At least doing some serious poking around in there. How are you feeling? Still sick?

Your chairs looks so cosy and comfy! And I love the orb-lights : D

    • Kenz

Isn’t that crazy that she could be born any day? We have our hospital bags packed and ready to go, car seat installed in the car, Nursery is all done (even though I haven’t blogged about it yet… oops). I feel the SAME way. So many pokes in there! Mostly I’m just feeling really uncomfortable and swollen. Ready to be done 🙂 How are YOU feeling?! I’m so excited for your lil gent to make his way here.

  • oh, so pretty! love it! and you’re so close–I can’t believe it (I know it hasn’t gone by as fast for you as it has for me ;))

    • Kenz

SOOO close! The internet always speeds things up 🙂 haha, but it does feel like forever. I can’t remember a time NOT being pregnant, haha.

  • thediynurse

It’s perfect- I love the bulbs! And the scale is spot on [normally that’s my pet peeve so thank you]. Happy baby bump 🙂

    • Kenz

Oh my gosh, scale is my pet peeve too!! I’m glad you appreciate it as much as I do 🙂

  • Anu

Love the baby bump pic. 🙂 It’s getting so close!

The light fixtures look fantastic too!

    • Kenz

Thank you! It’s crazy how close it’s getting!

  • Your space is looking so good. Love the lights you chose. I was giggling at your “too twiggy” description for one of the lights.

    • Kenz

haha, sometimes twigs are the problem. Sometimes they are the answer *stay tuned for tomorrow, lol.

  • anne @ wit wisdom and food

I love how this space has come together over time. It all looks so good together. Great light choice.

    • Kenz

Thanks Anne! I’m so happy with it too 🙂

  • Emma (Broke Ass Home)

Yay Light!!!! Yay Bump! Yay EVERYTHING!

    • Kenz

  • Simply Sarah

I love your choices on those lights Kenz! Fanatastic find! And we can’t DIY everything, right!? I mean part of DIY is searching for the right thing I think. Anyhow, hope you and Evelyn are doing well! You’re SOOOOOOO close!

    • Kenz

I totally agree! Sometimes I get too set on the idea that EVERYTHING has to be DIYed, but let’s be honest, it’s okay to buy furniture, and it’s okay to buy light fixtures. We’re not complete failures that way 🙂 And we ARE so close! I’m very ready to be done 🙂
